So you’re thinking of an engagement party to officially kick off the wedding festivities. Organise the perfect party by following our ten easy steps.

1. Decide who’s hosting.
Traditionally the bride’s parents host the engagement party, but nowadays it’s more common for the couple to organise the party themselves.

2. Pick a date.
Engagement parties are usually held soon after your engagement is announced while the news is still fresh and you’re full of the engagement buzz. You might even decide to announce your engagement at the party!

3. Create the guest list.
As an engagement party is a more intimate affair than that of a wedding, you would usually only invite your immediate loved ones.
For a traditional and more formal party, guests who are invited to the engagement party should also be invited to the wedding as a rule of thumb, my advice would be to organise your wedding guest list before you throw the engagement party.

4. Decide on a venue.
Remember that your engagement party should never upstage your wedding. A casual engagement party like drinks and snacks at a favourite restaurant is an excellent option.

5. Register for gifts (or not).
Some guests may ask about a gift registry, so decide whether you want to do a gift register or not. If not, include a note in the invitation kindly requesting no gifts.

6. Send the invitations.
Your engagement party invitations don’t have to match the rest of your wedding stationery! Keep the invitations simple. Hand-write them yourselves or send the invite via email.

7. Plan the menu.
Anything from just drinks to a simple buffet.

8. Set the scene.
If the budget allows, include a few small floral arrangements to perk up the space. It’s also an excellent way to try out a potential florist for the wedding.

9. Decide what to wear.
Depending on the venue of your party,  choose something that compliments that and, of course your fiancé outfit should nicely complement yours.

10. Have fun.
Let your hair down and enjoy
